Everyone seems to be talking about it right now. The anti-Islam movie by the Dutch politician Geert Wilders. Reliable sources say it will be released any moment now. But I find myself wondering… will it?

Geert WildersHalf a year ago the first rumors were wispered about an anti-Islam movie by the right-winged Geert Wilders. Ever since then, more rumors were brought out, and almost all confirmed by Wilders, and it started to live it’s own life. The movie got compared to the Danish cartoons, and after that a lot of flags were burned and threats were made.

Here in Holland the government is trying very hard to tell the outsite world that they do not support the movie or anything that will be in it. They even tried to make it illegal so it can’t be published. All over the world threats are made to Dutch citizens and Dutch representatives are pressurized in countries like Iran.

But I got suspicious the last few weeks. Making a movie requires a lot of people working on it, and everyone knows that there is always someone who leaks something. Especially if there are more than 5 people working on something. Besides that no one has seen one single shot from it. Maybe I’m wrong, but what IF there was and never will be a movie? What if on the release date (if it is set) Wilders sits down and says: “There is no movie. But see what the simple rumor has done? I got the entire Muslim world standing on it’s toes screaming, chanting and making threats. Our, and other, governments even wanted to stop the process of making this movie, which essentially means killing the right of free speech of which everyone says it is so important nowadays! How come we get so afraid when someone says, or threatens, to say something bad about the Islam? Even when it is based on nothing but a rumor and not one living soul had ever seen what it actually ment?”…

This is what I actually think about the movie. I don’t know what’s in it, so I can’t judge it. How can anybody else judge it? Please tell me, ’cause I really don’t get it.

With kind regards,

Martijn van Maasakkers
